Mighty 4 Pix!

So I talked to the homie Jimson and apparently, the Claremont College show was by the far the craziest.  I guess I can’t be surprised considering that it was a private show for the students that took place LITERALLY within a student housing complex.  i wonder if there was any Girls Gone Wild activity going on…hmm…

Anyways, here’s a shitload of pictures from the Mighty 4.

Meet booth and the crew…

Showcasing some SP gear, here’s OG b-boy, Crazy Legs, from the Bronx’s legendary Rock Steady Crew…and perhaps the most expert turntablist to have ever walked this Earth, San Francisco’s own DJ Q-bert (who was also once a part of the Rock Steady Crew)…

Check out the other vendors that were in attendance.  A lot of clothing brands…

Now for some of the action that took place…here’s the poplocking section…

The 1 on 1 b-girl battle over at the main stage…

A little free for all after the b-girl battle…nothing crazy tho.  All the top and down rockin’ was a bit redundant…

I think this was one of the main battles.  I walked in late, so I didn’t have a great view, but here’s a few shots of the scenery…

Now THIS was my favorite part of the day…and it wasn’t even a scheduled event.  They laid out some linoleum smack in the middle of all the vendors and gradually the circle kept growing and growing.  I especially enjoyed the old timers, who were REALLY poppin’ and lockin’.  That shit was great.

They brought the camera out and the power moves soon followed.  I didn’t get too many great shots of them tho.

This circle must have gone on for at least a good 3 hours.  And oh yea, Kool Raul of Supreme Soul (America’s Best Dance Crew Season 2) was guest Dj’ing during all of this…

So there you have it.  Mighty 4 was a great experience for us and we hope to join them again in the future.  I THINK they’re headed to Denver next.  Look em up!

Peace, “BK”

3 shows down.  Incredible.  And to think that it’s only the beginning…

Show #1 – October 23, 2008 – Costa Mesa, CA – Sharks Club

Here’s the front entrance and the main stage.  SP reppin’ HARD baby…

Here’s our set up and some of the SP fam bam…thanks also to my OC fam that came out to support, who actually all happen to be from up north…I KNOW y’all enjoyed the show…

This is Kafani and Turf Talk, I believe (based on what I can tell from these photos).  We were busy selling tees at the time, so I only snapped a few quick shots.

But when these Watts natives hit the stage next, I tuned in quicker than Tyrone Biggums at a free crack giveaway.  It was OG Glasses Malone in the flesh, and in my opinion, possibly the next big thing out the west coast, Jay Rock.  I didn’t recognize him at first, but his name and music sounded so familiar.  It turns out I’ve caught some his material on hip hop blogs a few months back…the music is DOPE.  Period.  And seeing him live made me an instant fan (bad shot of him, look him up!!)…

Here goes Samoan singing sensation, Selau…and Scoot, I believe, of Dem Hoodstarz…Band-Aide was there too, but this was the best shot I got…

Here’s Big Rich and Boo Banga performing the SF Anthem (produced by Traxamillion, it’s a dope ass flip of Scott MacKenzie’s smash hit from the 60′s, “San Francisco”)…and Keak Da Sneak, the hyphy originator, holdin’it down for the bay, reppin’ Oakland!  A brawl actually broke out while he was performing “Super Hyphy”…

And finally, the man of the hour, E-Feezy…Ambassador of the Yay…the king of slanguage himself!  Look at him and Keak directing traffic…

So that was show #1.  It couldn’t have gone any better.  Shout out to the Shark Club staff for taking care of us…SP gotchu baby!

Show #2 – October 24, 2008 – San Diego, CA – 4th & B

Gritty and grimy, this concert venue made for…well…a better concert.  Oh, and look who we got here…Caleb and ShaunBro of Concrete Project!  Thanks again for all the help fellas…and ladies :)

Once again, Big RIch, Boo Banga, Selau, and Dem Hoodstarz do their thing…

Then look who steps on stage.  The “Freshest Filipino” himself…Roscoe UUUUUmali!

Here he is backstage during his interview with Myx TV.  Shout out to Myx TV…we were actually booth neighbors at Mighty 4, too.  Put us on baby!

The homie Keak doin’ it again.  I ran into him backstage.  Yea, he really talks like that.

This next guy’s favorite word is “BEEEEEEEITCH!”  Yup, you got it.  The show just kept getting better.  Say hello to Uncle $hort Dog…

And of course, the man of the hour once again…sprinkle me mayn…

Peep the Daygo crowd…nothing but love out there…

Big Rich, Boo Banga, Selau, and Scoot doing a little promo for SP…

So there goes show #2.  Great fuckin’ night.  Shout out to the 4th & B staff for all their work.

Show #3 – October 25, 2008 – Claremont, CA – Claremont McKenna College

It turned out this show was actually a private event for all the prestigious students of CMC and the school wouldn’t allow us to sell any merchandise.  So being that we already enjoyed two shows back to back and still have many more to go, we skipped out and headed back to our homegirl’s baby shower to get fucked up and kick it with fam bam.  Good times.  Congrats again Rose and Mose!!

Well, the tour resumes this coming weekend up in the Pacific Northwest.  It’ll be hitting Portland, Sea-town, Bremerton, and Boise, ID.  Unfortunately, we won’t be making it to these particular cities due to the distance.  For those of you residing out there, DO NOT miss this show.  I repeat, DO NOT miss out on this show.  I will keep you posted with further tour dates/locations, but make sure to check with your local circuit for ticket info!!

We should be hitting Arizona and Vegas next…be ready.

Peace, “BK”

P.S.  I will post MIghty 4 pictures tomorrow…

We’re finally back from the bay, AGAIN, and now it’s time for E-40′s WAKE IT UP TOUR!!  So far, there are only 3 scheduled dates (out of the 15), and they are:

1.  Oct. 23 – Shark Club, Costa Mesa, CA

2.  Oct. 24 – 4th and B, San Diego, CA

3.  Oct. 25 – Claremont College, Claremont, CA

Apparently, the tour will be stretched out over a longer period of time due to Mr. E. Fonzarelli’s busy schedule.  Further dates and locations will be announced as we move along.  So the first show is in Costa Mesa and guests will include Keak Da Sneak, Glasses Malone, Roscoe Umali, and so forth.  Need I say more?  Check out the flyer!

Oh, and SP will not be providing tour t-shirts anymore.  We had a dope ass design in the works, but there was too much conflict in schedule between everybody, so timing simply wasn’t very great to have it ready for the first show.  But we’re still gonna have our booth set up to sell our own merchandise, so make sure to bring that scrill, aite?!

So our short trip to SF was a lot of fun.  I got to see a handful of faces I don’t get to see too often.  Not to mention, the timeshare condo we stayed at was beyond the quality and comfort of a 5-star hotel (thanks to my homegirl who got the hook up! shout out to C. Lam!!).  But yea, it was good to see everybody…y’all know who you are!!

Mighty 4 was a great turn out.  I’m sure attendees were in the thousands, so we definitely got some solid exposure and a lot of promotional stuff out there.  We also had the opportunity to meet some good people and network a bit.  The sales, however, were slow throughout the day, but we cut the price during the final hour and a half and sold a shit load haha.  Honestly, I’m not suprised…how could I be during such the economic crisis?

Plus, there was a LOT of dancing going ALL day, so the vendor area remained relatively quiet.  Which reminds me, man, there was some serious b-boy’in’ going on.  Being the hip-hop head that I am, it was really an honor to be a part of such an event representing the true elements of hip hop…not only breaking, but DJ’ing, MC’ing, beat making (with the MPC), and tagging (the last 3 I didn’t catch too much of).  Shit was dope though…I even got to meet two of my pre-adolescent inspirations, Crazy Legs and DJ Qbert!

I personally enjoyed the pop-lockers and the DJ scratchin’ showcase above all.  Break dancing and turn-tabling were two things I always dreamed of doing as a youngin, but I never got into it.  Guess I was too caught up with being a knucklehead.

Anyways, I will post pictures from the event soon!  I have so many to sort through!!

Peace, “BK”

Here’s another stash of long overdue pictures…behind the scene photos FROM the photo shoot.  Shout out to our photographer, Huy Doan, for the superb work.  A chill Chi-town cat, here he is “busy” at work after we finished the “guy-stuff”, during our TWO AND A HALF HOUR BREAK.

Why a two and half hour break, you ask?  Well, somebody was supposed to show up and be ready to roll at 6 pm for their segment, but ended up being a whopping 90 minutes late!  As you can see, David and Steve made good use out of the downtime.

That tardy student was none other than Ms. Cherie Salazar, our beautiful model for the shoot.  The rest of class was fun. :)   Thanks again, Cherie.  Here’s a little taste of the action.

So yea, the look book is coming real soon.  It’s not really for the general public, but you’ll get to see most of them once our webstore has been renovated.

And to all my Bay-areans, DO NOT forget about the Mighty 4 10th Anniversary Event at the Cow Palace in Daly City!!  Saturday, October 18th baby!!  It’s an 8 hour long hip hop function featuring MC and DJ battling, b-boy competitions, and graffiti showcases.  SP will be there slangin’ tees for $20 a mutha fuckin’ pop!!

Oh, and did I mention we’re sponsoring E-40′s Wake It Up Tour?  Hehe that’s right.  Be on the lookout for the tour schedule and ticket sales!  It’s about to get real hyphy, so put ya stunna shades on and be ready get 18 dummy with all your favorite Yay Area all-stars!  YADADA?

Lastly, attention San Diegans!  Don’t forget to mark November 21st on your calendars.  Sanz P and Concrete Project at Canes once again!  You do not wanna miss this pre-turkey event damnit!

Well, I hope everybody’s maintaining and staying in good spirits through all this economic and political fuckery.  And although I never discuss my economic and political views openly, I must encourage you to vote this year!!  If you want change, make the right choice…

You can easily register through www.declareyourself.com

Peace, “BK”
