If you’re not familiar with an LA street dog, it’s a bacon wrapped hot dog in a bun, topped with grilled onions, bell peppers, ketchup, mayo, mustard, and served with a freshly grilled jalepeno.  You’ll find these street vendors in busy marketplaces and almost certainly when you step out of a Hollywood club at 2 am.  These little carts, equipped with a portable propane burner and baking sheet-turned-griddle, quickly get swarmed by drunk asses looking to satisfy their drunk munchies.  The shit is a must-get.

Anyways, me and the homie hit up the downtown garment district the other day to pick up a few things and ended up on a street dog frenzy.  The first one was ok…the hot dog itself was twice the normal size, but they didn’t have the grilled bell peppers or jalapenos.  The second one was money, the standard as I described it above.  Finally, as we were walking back to the car, we noticed a vendor (working off of a meter maid cart) serving some different shit, so we HAD to try it.

This son of a bitch was topped with some fresh pico de gallo…a chunky mixture of chopped onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, and cilantro.  Gaaaad damn, this was THE one.  I hope ths picture from my phone does it justice.  You best believe I’ll be back for one of these.

Well, I’m headed to Frisco this Tuesday for NYE and to relax through the weekend.  Apparently, Mos Def is hosting his annual “Sneakers Required” NYE party.  Never been, but it sounds like fun.  2009 is almost here!

Hannukah, Kwanza, Christmas…whatever the case, be safe and enjoy your time with loved ones!  Only if it weren’t so freakin’ cold and rainy…

Sorry folks, I’ve been slackin’ on my blog game…BIG TIME!  It’s been kinda hectic lately, being that it’s year end.  The holidays are a given, but things need to be organized and ready to jump into the new year.  It’s been a long year, yet a very quick one…and a great one to say the least.  Considering all the obstacles we’ve encountered and overcame, in addition to the few changes of direction that we made along the way, I say we’ve done quite well, independently.  Two thousand nine is looking very bright for Sanz Pareil.

Here’s a little recap of what’s been going on and what’s to come…

1.  The E-40 Wake It Up Tour will continue in January.  Booking shows in December proved to be a bit difficult due to the holidays.  Not only are people traveling and out of town, but college students are busy studying for finals, so it’s especially been hard with campus shows.  Shout outs to Chuck and Jimson over at Street Cred Music.

2.  Something I’ve been talking about since SPRING, is FINALLY in its FINAL stages…the Sanz Pareil lookbook!  I mean, we only started working on it a few weeks ago, but we’ve set it aside time after time.  At some points, we were forced to, but ultimately we’ve been gauging the right moment for the jump off…

3.  …which brings me to my next point.  We’ll finally be hitting stores in the new year!  Quite a few stores have already inquired about it this past year, but we held back for our own important reasons, so I hope everyone understands and your patience is greatly appreciated.

4.  SPTV coming soon…that’s right…

5.  Optimus’ music video for “On The Grind” will be released very soon!  It was shot back in May and believe me, I’ve been dying to see it, too.  Refer back to my post on May 19, if you don’t remember.  According to CL, CEO of Sessions Entertainment, they’ve also been guaging for that right moment to dish the goods, ya feel me?  Word is, they’ve got a nice joint venture on the table with a major record label (they’ve already turned away deals in the past from labels like Warner Bros).

6.  Finally, I’d like to introduce Sessions Entertainment’s newly signed R&B sensation, AISHA.  She might look familiar (if you, again, refer back to the May 19 post about Opto’s mv shoot).  She has no released material just yet, but they’ve got big plans for her, so keep your ear to the street and be on the look out.  She is young, beatiful, Latin, AND bi-lingual.  I gladly accepted the invitation to her photo shoot last week.  Here she is…

Happy Holidays!

Sorry for the wait people.  That turkey-itis had me lazy as fuck this past weekend.  I hope everybody had a good one.

Canes was a smash…again.  Sanz Pareil and Concrete Project…you know how we do!  Although I couldn’t get my swirve on (due to the long drive the next day), it was still a fun-filled night with great company.  Thanks to everybody that came out and showed their support!  Stay classy, San Diego…

Here’s Random Luck, who opened up for the night.  They are pretty sick.  Apparently they’ve opened shows for the likes of Evidence (of Dilated Peoples), Jayo Felony, De La Soul, KRS-One, and others.  Their album, Conspiracy Silence, is in stores now and features Ill Bill (of LCN), Vinnie Paz (of Jedi Mind Tricks), Kool G Rap, and more.  www.myspace.com/randomluck

Then came the Kneehighs, another local act, who performed at the first Canes Party.  They are dope…no question…I really enjoyed them both times.  From what I’ve read, they’ve opened shows for Bone, Talib, The Liks, DJ Quik, The Roots, and many others.  They have performed at many major venues and are heavy in the SD circuit.  Check them out…homeboy on the sax is bad!  www.myspace.com/kneehighs

Then of course, who brought this party all together?  The mighty mutha fuckin’ Concrete Project…they hit the stage and did what they do best…set shit on fire (not literally).  And yes, they were the ones to put this party together and make it happen, despite what the flyers may have implicated.   Big shout outs to the Concrete Crew…Jen, Eddie, Cody, Shaun, Tory, and Caleb!    Goto their myspace page and buy a couple cd’s!!!  www.myspace.com/theconcreteproject

Also, shout out to Vokab Company who capped the night off.  I missed their performance cuz I was busy chatting away upstairs.  =(   www.myspace.com/thevokabcompany

So there goes another page in the history books.  We grabbed us some Del Taco and called it a night to rest up for our trip to Bakersfield.

November 22, 2008 – Bakersfield, CA – Nile Theater

We didn’t haul our booth up there for this one, so we decided to sit back and enjoy the entire show this time.  The venue was much better than the last (San Bern) and the crowd was much bigger (there was no age requirement).  Being that we were much closer to The Bay, I was hoping that we’d get a handful of guests like we did at the first two shows of this tour…but we didn’t.

Thankfully we did get Kafani and Dem Hoodstarz after the two weak ass opening acts.  Here’s Kafani and his crew.  For those of you who were there, did y’all see that McLovin looking mutha fucker (not pictured) up on stage video taping and hittin’ the blunt with them??  Haha that shit was comedy.

Here go Dem Hoodstarz.  They seemed to be pretty heated when the DJ was fuckin’ up their music.  They had the entire crowd screaming “FUCK THE DJ!” and kept incorporating it into their songs throughout their performance.  Poor Mr. DJ.

Check out these groupies that came out from the green room prior to E-40′s set.  I’m not hatin’ or nothing, but man did they look stupid back there waiting for him to hit the stage.  Haha.

The Ambassador of the Yay finally hopped on stage, but man oh man…the audio went to shit!  They attempted to start a few times, but the sound was horrendous.  They were NOT happy at all.  E-40′s hype man kept yelling out “What kinda establishment is this?!?!”  This fuckery proceeded for about 15 minutes while 40 tried to keep the crowd entertained, but they finally said fuck it and went back into the green room.

So there stood the groupies, alone, once again.  After a few more minutes of looking dumb, they tried to scurry back into the green room like a small herd of cattle, but the security kicked them right back into the spotlight.  Hahaha.  At Last (an additional 15 minutes later)…

There it is.  Stay tuned everyone because this tour is NOT over!  I will keep you posted with the schedule.

Peace, “BK”

A moment of silence for the tragedy that struck in Mumbai… Increase the peace!
